When you're considering the switch to solar power, having a basic grasp of how the installation process works can be quite useful.
So, what unfolds once you've made your decision and signed up for solar energy with Phoenix Valley Solar?
While experiences can vary depending on the solar provider you choose, in most cases, you'll have a project coordinator assigned to guide you through the entire journey. This project coordinator acts as your liaison within the company, working closely with different teams responsible for various aspects of your solar project. They'll keep you informed at every step, ensuring you're well-prepared and informed throughout the process.
Though the specifics may differ for each home solar installation, Phoenix Valley Solar follows a streamlined process that can be broken down into six core steps:
Assessment: Once you've given the go-ahead to your solar proposal, Phoenix Valley Solar conducts a thorough site survey of your residence. During this phase, a representative from Phoenix Valley Solar will visit your home to evaluate its current state and gather essential measurements. Typically lasting about two hours, the surveyor might also take photos of your property, roof, electrical panel, and even the attic space to aid in further planning.
Design: Moving on to the design phase, Phoenix Valley Solar's engineering team takes charge. They carefully align the digital design with the findings from the site assessment, ensuring all aspects are in harmony. If any additional work is required, such as a roof replacement or an electrical panel upgrade (needed for around 5% of homes), this will be discussed with you. You'll have the option to have Phoenix Valley Solar or another electrical provider handle this extra work. Your project coordinator will present you with the finalized design before moving forward.
Permitting: With the design locked in, the permitting phase comes into play. Phoenix Valley Solar obtains the necessary construction permits from your local authorities. If applicable, they'll also submit a preliminary net energy metering application to your utility company. Permitting timelines can vary significantly, ranging from a few weeks to potentially several months, depending on your location. Your project coordinator will provide you with a clearer idea of the timing involved.
Installation: Once your permits are greenlit, it's time for the exciting part – installation. Phoenix Valley Solar will promptly schedule your installation. The installation process usually takes 1-2 days. During this time, your power might be temporarily disconnected for up to two hours at a time, or up to 4-6 hours for solar battery installations.
Inspection: Following the installation, your project undergoes inspection by your local authorities. Your project coordinator will notify you in advance of the inspection date. Typically, the inspection itself takes just a few hours once it's scheduled, and the exact timing will be provided by the city on the day of the inspection.
Commission: Once the inspection successfully wraps up, Phoenix Valley Solar proceeds to apply for your "permission to operate" from your utility provider. The timing of this step can vary based on your utility's specific procedures. Upon receiving approval from your utility, your solar system will be up and generating clean, solar energy within 48 hours. While transitioning your home to solar energy is an exciting endeavor, it's important to note that it's a process. The entire installation journey can span anywhere from 30 days to six months, influenced by factors such as your local utility and the permitting process.
